Change Permalinks in WordPress
To help you understand better regarding the topic, I have attached a video here. So, I will highly recommend you watch this video as it is easier to understand these types of tutorials with the help of a video.
After watching the video, you can refer to these footnotes to have even a better understanding of how to change permalinks in WordPress:
Firstly, for general information, you should know what is a Permalink? It is kind of a short form for a permanent link. It is permanent for your pages, for your posts, your website, and remains unchanged for a long period of time.
To change permalinks in WordPress, first, go to the sidebar in your WordPress dashboard. Then, Settings and click on ‘Permalinks’. In the permalinks settings, there are a few formats from which you can choose the format for your permalink. So, from these given formats, choose the permalinks that suit you the most.
And since permalink is also a factor in SEO, so I would suggest you choose the structure of the permalink very wisely. This is because we are not going to change it for a long time. We will see how permalink affects SEO in upcoming posts.
I have selected ‘Post Name’ as the permalink structure for my website. From the given structures and formats of permalinks, you can choose any of the structure for your website or blog which suits you the most. The default structures to choose from are Plain, Day and Name, Month and Name, or Numeric.
This is how you change permalinks in WordPress using the predefined structures. You can also define your own permalink structure.
Custom Structure for Permalinks
Also, you can create a custom structure for your permalinks in WordPress. So, let’s say for your permalink structure you first want the year and then the month in which the post is published and then the post name. For this, first, select the ‘Custom Structure’, then select ‘year’, then ‘month’ and then post name. And after that click on ‘Save Changes’.
Or let’s say in your permalink structure you first want author name who wrote the post and then the post name. For this, click on the ‘author’, then ‘post name’ and then ‘Save Changes’.
So, in short, you can either choose from given structures and formats or you can create a custom structure for your permalink from all the given options. So, choose your desired format and then click on ‘Save Changes’. Also, if you want to learn WordPress for FREE, you need to check out the WordPress tutorial on Digital Abhi Blog right now!
