Hi, this is Digital Abhi, your digital marketing friend, and a contented digital marketer. In this post, we will see how to approve, edit, or delete comments in WordPress.

Comments in WordPress

To help you understand better regarding how to approve, edit or delete comments in WordPress, I have attached a video here. So, I will highly recommend you watch this video as it is easier to understand these types of tutorials with the help of a video.

How to Approve, Edit, or Delete Comments in WordPress?

After watching the video, you can refer to these footnotes to have even a better understanding of how to approve, edit, or delete comments in WordPress:

Let’s start by logging into our WordPress Dashboard. Then in the WordPress dashboard, move on the left sidebar and click on the option of ‘Comments’. If someone has commented on your website, you will see that comment in front of you which is held for moderation.

Approving a Comment

So, when you will hover your cursor over the comment, you will see a few options. The first option is Approve, second is Reply, after that ‘Quick Edit’, ‘Edit’, ‘Spam’ and ‘Trash’. So, if you think that the comment is genuine and it should be on your site you can click on ‘Approve’.

As soon as you’ll click on Approve, the comment will be approved will display on your website. To see how this comment looks, you can just open the post on which the comment was made.

Editing a Comment

Now let’s see how you can edit this comment. To edit it, you have to click on the option ‘Edit’. Then the editor will open up where you can edit the comment as the way you want. After you are done, click on the button ‘Update’ on the right-hand side.

To check how the comment look on the website, follow the same procedure as above.

Deleting a Comment

If you want to delete the comment, you can click on the option ‘Trash’. Now if you think that the comment is spammy and it should not be on your website, you can click on the button ‘Spam’.

Avoiding Spammy Comments in WordPress

Now there’s one more thing I want you to be aware of. When your website and your content will be quite popular, you’ll start getting some spammy comments. And then you’ll notice that there is a pattern in those spammy comments. There are a few words that keep on repeating in those spammy comments.

So, you don’t want to come again and again in the comments section of the WordPress and mark as spam or delete all those comments manually. So, what you can do is, you can tell WordPress that if any comment which contains these particular words, automatically mark it as Spam.

To do this, move on to the ‘Settings‘ in the left sidebar and click on ‘Discussion’. Scroll a little bit and you’ll see an option of ‘Comment Blacklist’. So, let’s say you get a lot of spammy comments which contain the word ‘spinner’. Now, what you have to do is, you have to just enter the word ‘spinner’ there and ‘Save Changes’.

Now, whenever someone will try to put a spammy comment which contains the word ‘spinner’ on your website that comment will be automatically moved to the Trash and you don’t have to manually put the effort again and again and again.
